My top 3 recommendations on 9 different categories, all from 2024.
Roughly sorted in each category, with my favorite at the bottom.
Movies
I watched thirty movies this year . My top 3 were
- Panic Room Jodie Foster, a young Kristen Stewart, an incredible script and an easily-digestible concept. What’s not to love?
- Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves A fun romp that reminded me of the Mummy (1999)! I don’t know what the detractors were on about.
- His Girl Friday A classic, fast-paced with rapid-fire dialogue. Per Wikipedia; The average word per minute count of the film is 240 while the average American speech is around 140 words per minute. There are nine scenes with at least four words per second and at least two with more than five words per second.
TV Shows
I didn’t watch many shows this year.
- Only Murders in the Building (Season 4) Beginning and end were great, with a bit of slow filler in the middle. Still a fun time.
- Babylon 5 (Season 5) Great concepts, still finding its footing.
- Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur (season 2 part 1). Incredibly fun show with a ton of heart!
Video Games
I finished 30 video games this year. My favorites:
- Dungeon Clawler
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Balatro
Board Games
I played 91 board games this year, according to BoardGameGeek. My favorites:
- Just One
- Decrypto
- Watergate
Just One and Watergate were new to me. Decrypto remains a favorite.

Standouts include:
- The Appeal, a murder mystery you’re meant to solve.
- The Score, a crime/heist book with huge stakes
- The Murder of Roger Ackyrod, my new favorite Agatha Christie.
Honrable mention to The Steerswoman. Dishonorable mention to The Once and Future King.
Comics
Per Goodreads, I read 41 comics this year.
Favorites include:
- The Totally Awesome Hulk (Volume 1)

- Strong Female Protagonist
RPGs
I played 11 unique systems in 2024.
- Sentinels of the Multiverse continues to be my favorite general-purpose Supers game.
- Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Always grand to run in person, and the dice system here is clever, even if I don’t always immediately know how to relate their results to the fiction
- The Score, an RPG heist in 15 minutes.
Podcasts
- Penny For Your Thoughts. The hosts of Penny Arcade going through the archive and talking about old strips. Always a joy!
