Rapid Movie Reviews

A handful of thoughts about a handful of films.

Sheep Detective: I laughed, I cried, I loved the mystery. Full of heart, and worth your time.

Conclave: What a gorgeous movie, and one of Ralph Fiennes’ best roles. I want to watch it again just for the umbrella scene!

Juror #2: This will be Clint Eastwood’s final film, and it’s not a bad note to go out on. Still, If you’re going to make a courtroom drama, don’t make allusions to 12 Angry Men unless you’re REALLY sure you’re that good. It’s like saying you’re the next LeBron before attempting a layup. There’s no good outcome! Don’t make your audience think about a better movie they could be watching instead.

The Count of Monte Cristo (2024): Every deviation this movie makes from the book is completely defensible. Haydee is no longer a slave NOR a lover of the Count’s, two great choices. It’s gorgeous and just fun to watch.

Petite Maman: A wonderfully low budget film, the kind where you don’t realize until it’s over that it has 3 sets and 6 actors.
