In 2020 I started working from home due to covid. After a few months, I figured I’d better get a schedule to get out of the house. So at 3 pm I’d go down stairs, grab Lacy and take her on a walk. After a week, she started coming up to the office to collect me. She’d rest her big head on my leg and just wiggle, looking up with her brown eyes. I’m ready for my walk now, Yerdad1.
After months of showing up exactly on time, she started showing up early. Five minutes, then ten, twenty. Finally I said, Lacy c’mon, it’s not 3 and made her wait for it. She stopped coming early after that.
My coworkers knew the schedule too. I’d come back to messages saying, oh you’re probably walking your dog. When you get back, can you show me how to…
I’ve been told that when I did go to the office that wasn’t also the place where I lived, about 10 minutes before I was due home she’d walk over to the door and wait, making absolutely sure that the first thing that greeted me was a wet snout full of that days favored toy.

My wife taught Lacy to seek me by saying “go get your dad”. She didn’t quite understand grammar. ↩
