Below are things I’ve learned, remembered, or found interesting in the past month:
-
After 200 years, red-billed choughs were reintroduced to Kent, England.
-
There is much debate among Beatles fans over whether Paul actually played the drums on Dear Prudence. This Medium article covers it pretty well.
-
Courtesy of Tom Scott’s newsletter, this delightful story about fake birds in Charlie’s Angels. And you thought investigative journalism was dead.
-
A fascinating long read about paleoanthropologists and very old bones. Lots of strong personalities here!
-
Mildly related, the world’s oldest recorded fingerprint may also be the oldest portable art.
-
A fleet of electric cars in Utrecht, Netherlands will use Vehicle-to-grid charging to use solar power and the cars’ batteries to supplement the power grid. Very cool!
-
I love alien abduction stories, and the first half of this blog post by Cube Flipper is fascinating. The second half is about neuroscience and drugs, which may interest you more than it does me.
-
Having trouble getting a screw to find purchase? Got a stripped screw hole? Stick a toothpick or two in the hole and try again!
-
What happened to the V-chip?. I’d read a much deeper dive into this!
-
Tips for anyone making a comic.
-
New dino! This one’s dog-sized. As the owner of two very large dogs (110 lb) who are friends with a very small (8 lb) dog, I realize that “dog-sized” is, at best, a vague measurement.

Wraps are a much more recent invention than I would have expected!
