2026 movie awards

It’s time for the annual movie awards! I haven’t watched most of what’s up for an Oscar, so instead I’ve given a handful of awards to the 32 movies I’ve seen this year, in all the standard categories.

Best foreign movie

The Count of Monte Cristo (2024).
*It’s a perfect movie! *

Best Sequel

Aliens.
Tight competition with Magic Mike The Last Dance and For a Few Dollars More

Best movie despite the supporting cast seemingly learning to act as the film goes on

Gran Torino

Best movie based on true events

Aliens Apollo 13

Best PG-rated movie

Apollo 13, just barely over Conclave.

Best adaption of a novel from more than 200 years ago that has been adapted many times before but has never looked so damn good. In honor of the Oscar’s, awards for what I’ve been watching

Count of Monte Cristo (2024)

Best Clint Eastwood

For a Few Dollars More.

Surprisingly stacked category!

Umbrella scene Conclave

Prettiest movie

Conclave

Best Animated Movie

The Iron Giant

Below is the list of all the movies I’ve seen this year, very roughly sorted by how much I enjoyed them (least favorite at the top, favorite at the bottom). Commentary included for select movies.

  • [Czech] The Fabulous Baron Munchausen (1962)
  • You Were Never Really Here (2017)
  • Taxi Driver (1976)
  • [Korean] The Good, The Bad, The Weird (2008)
  • Father of the Bride (1991)
  • Sex lies and videotape (1989)
  • [Japanese] Ran (1985)
  • Logan Lucky (2017)
  • The Batman (2022)
  • A Fistful of Dollars (1964)
  • The Adventures of Tintin (2011)
  • Casino (1995)
  • Juror #2 Strong premise, fell off in the last 30 minutes. Did itself a disservice by evoking 12 Angry Men, a much better film.

  • Exit Through The Gift Shop (2010)
  • [French] Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)
  • Magic Mike XXL (2015)
  • (Rewatch) [Spanish] Pan’s Labyrinth
  • Magic Mike (2012)
  • The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (1966)
  • For a Few Dollars More (1965)
  • The Mask of Zorro
  • Magic Mike The Last Dance (2023)
  • L.A. Confidential (1997)
  • (Rewatch) Gran Torino (2008)
  • The Phoenician Scheme (2025)
  • Aliens
  • Conclave (2024) The longer I think about this movie, the more I like it.

  • The Iron Giant (1999)
  • A Few Good Men
  • (Rewatch) The Mummy (1999)
  • Apollo 13
  • [French] The Count of Monte Cristo (2024) What a brilliant film. Absolutely perfect.
